Cabinets & Counter tops

The hard quartz countertops arrived Tuesday along with the extra pieces of quartz for the ensuite. Tile work was started on the ensuite, everything is coming together nicely.  The plumber installed the toilets in the main bath and the guest bath however we did not install the toilet in the ensuite as there is still too much activity there with all of the tile work in the shower and the stair risers to the jetted tub.

Surprise

We've had a couple of surprises in this project with electrical junction boxes behind shower walls and now a dryer vent pipe with a broken connection in the basement.  The worst surprise is during the original construction, someone cut the top cord of the engineered floor joist to install the exhaust venting for the dryer, and compromised the strength of the joist.  To correct the problem we are installing the dryer vent inside the wall, this will miss the floor joist and create a proper connection for future dryer hook-ups.  The floor joist is truly compromised, we will add framing posts between the bottom of the joist and the floor.

Preparation & Flooring

Lots of prep work to ensure the floor tiles have the right base. All of the old holes in the floor from heat registers, toilets, bidet and plumbing pipes were repaired then leveled with flooring compound.  Orange Ditra mat was used over the entire floor this provides an uncoupled flooring system and eliminates the possibility of any cracking of tiles or grout lines.  The tile work on the flooring is now complete, we expect another week for the wall tiles.  Cabinets were delivered and will be installed Monday March 16.  All of the hard surface counter tops and and extra pieces for the shower were ordered, big changes by the end of the week.

Paint & tile

All of the walls are painted with the primer coat and the first coat of paint, preparation of the walls and floors is complete and the tile work has started.  We are well behind where we should be, trades are busier than expected and dancing from one job to the next.
